World cup challenge

The challenge is to holiday a game until about a month before the world cup then choose a team and win it with them, the catch is that each of the 23 players you call up must have a value under 5million pounds.

So if you go england, you wont have lampard, gerrard or rooney but you could have players like leon osman, david dunn or matty taylor.

Its a simple enough challenge but i think i could be very interesting.
Im going to try this challenge soon with england and im looking forward to wining the cup with some quality under valued players

Post Screenies of your squad (with values) and some screenies throughout your world cup in this thread

and good luck to anyone that tries this.

For those that wanted a more accurate World Cup, there is a Saved Game with the correct teams in the World Cup and its already holidayed to May 1st 2010.

World Cup Save Game

I also have all the World Cup Kits uploaded for those that want them. World Cup Kits

Winners
Conor - England - 8th May
Posh Spice - England - 10th May

So here we go with my England challenge.
Holidayed until May 1st.

Injuries are a major factor.

Green Out
King Out
Jagielka Out
Jenas Out
Turner Out

First off is to get the 26 man squad named for the friendly against Mexico.

Going with Matt Derbyshire and Daniel Sturridge up front, quick players to get past the slower Mexican defense.

Scott Parker & Jack Rodwell in the Middle of the park.

Becks on the Right and Konchesky on the Left.

Bramble and Upson in the heart of defense.

Mattock on the Left side and Phil Neville on the right.

Rest of the squad

Right, off to the match and what a dazzling first half display by England.

4-0 up at half time and that gives the coach some time to play around with formations for the second half.

Hunkered down in the second half, game finished 4-0

Upson gets the MoM and scored a cracker of a goal from 25 yds out.

Highlight was Becks goal on 3 minutes, a trademark curling 30 yd free kick.

Phil Neville is the Captain and Becks is the Vice Captain.

Good performance from the England squad, now on to the World Cup.

England have been drawn in Group D with Russia, North Korea and Paraguay.

By no means an easy group, there could be some upsets, but England are expected to qualify.

England impressed with their new starters against a strong Ivory Coast side.

Matthew Upson had an outstanding game again and marked Drogba right out of the game.

With many of the players only playing 45 minutes, it gave the fans a good chance to see many players in action.

Matt Derbyshire and Daniel Sturridge showed their speed in the first half and had several chances denied by the post and crossbar but in the end it was Chopra who grabbed the equalizer.

England head into their next game heavy favorites over North Korea.

A game with some brutal tackling by North Korea and an early bath for one player right at half time.

Then some retaliation by Matthew Upson giving away a penalty almost gave North Korea some hope. A fine save by Foster saved the blushes.

Chopra came off the bench and finished off the North Koreans with a scorcher of a goal.

England head into their match against Paraguay with no injuries.

England go into this game with a 3-4-3 formation as Paraguay will hunker down and play 10 men behind the ball and hope to get in a counter attack.

Turned out to be just as tough as predicted, with a last gasp strike by Matt Derbyshire to seal the win.

Ben Foster claims the MoM with two incredible saves.

England having already qualified can breathe a little easier for their final group match against Russia.

Russia have everything to play for though and they can still qualify with a win and some help from Paraguay.

England switch their team round slightly, Upson starts at LB, Spence takes over in the middle with Bramble.

Sturridge moves to AML and Chopra starts up front with Derbyshire.

Good start by England and Chopra find the net after 11 minutes only for Arshavin to pull it level for Russia.

Zhirkov puts Russia ahead and it stays at 2-1

Disappointment for England but they will continue on in the competition.

Russia are heading home though as Paraguay qualified along with England from Group D

England are drawn against Holland in the next round.

With Australia and Brazil getting knocked out England have it all to do to beat a talented Dutch side.

Holland go into the game favorites and England will be looking to Micheal Owen to provide a spark up front.
Micheal Chopra is out with a nagging injury.

England thought they must have hit a brick wall when Affelay scored on 1 minute but Sturridge struck with 2 goals right before HT to go in 2-1 at the break.

Robin Van Persie pulled Holland level and the game went to penalties.

Awful penalty taking by Holland, one saved by Foster and 2 missed and England are through to the next round.

Jack Rodwell picks up the MoM with a masterful performance.

Into the quarter finals and what should be an easy win for England against Bosnia & Herz.

In quite a lackluster game, England finally overcame Bosnia to advance into the Semi Finals and will play the winner of Germany Vs Argentina

The Semi Finals are all set.

Will England be able to stop Messi ?

Can Italy stop Torres ?

Torres has 4 goals in the competition so far.

Argentina have only conceded one goal.

These Semi Finals are going to be tough to decide.

In what can only be described as one of the most exciting games for quite some time.

A game with 5 goals, 2 Red Cards and 10 Yellow Cards this lived up to all expectations between these two great rivals.

Micheal Owen got things off to a fine start when he latched onto a fine pass from Sturridge to bury the ball and put England 1-0 up.

Sturridge got on the scoresheet himself in the 48th minute to put England 2-0 up and they looked like they were breezing through this game.

Ben Foster made an awful error and Maxi Rodriguez somehow managed to score from the touchline and bring Argentina back into the game.

The heat of the game was too much for Maschereno and he got his marching orders for persistent fouling.

Tevez was pulled down in the box by Bramble and the ref pointed to the spot.

Tevez equalizes and its 2-2 and we are heading into extra time.

Micheal Owen is hacked away again and its a Penalty to England.

Mark Noble puts it away and England are at 3-2 !!!

Matthew Upson gets a red for his fouling but England hang on and win 3-2 !!!

Jack Rodwell picks up another MoM award, he really kept Messi in check today.

The World Cup Final

England vs Spain

England are without Neville, Upson and Rodwell though suspension.
Scott Parker has a twisted ankle.
David Beckham is doubtful recovering from a bruised thigh.

Spain are without Xavi & Raul (Injured)

Jimmy Bullard may well have the unenviable task of marking Cesc Fabregas and Titus Bramble will have to keep close reins on Fernando Torres if England are going to get anything out of this match.

Thought i would try a different team from yous two so decided to go Holland.

Not too bad a squad, missing some great players (robben, van persie and kuyt) but got a good balance of youth and experience, and ill be looking to the older players to pop up with the important goals.

Im playing with the World Cup Save Game so my group is, denmark, japan and cameroon

This match was always going to be tough, but i thought we could at least take them to penalties. We started off well and took the lead 2 mins into the match, we played great defensively and held off the brazilian attack unitl they final broke us down on the 76 minute, after this goal we just seemed to fall apart and brazil went on to score again so i had to go all out attack and we were countered in the last minute of the game, gutted to be put out Sad

Seedorf won Player of the tournament, Goal of the tournament and top goal scorer with 8 :O what a world cup the 34 year old had.
