Its back to work Holloway and his troops.

Fresh from their triumphs in the Euro's their attention is now drawn to the World Cup Qualifiers.

Drawn in Group 8
Montenegro
England
Poland
Ukraine
Moldova
San Marino

Holloway gets to name his squad for the first three games against Montenegro, Ukraine and Poland.

With the injury to Joe Hart there is much speculation as to who will get the nod in goal.

GKs

Fraser Forster
Ross Turnbull
Jason Steele

Defs

Gary Cahill
Ashley Cole
Phil Jones
Glen Johnson
Kyle Walker
Joleon Lescott
Ryan Shawcross
Jordan Spence

Mids

Gareth Barry
Steven Gerrard
Frank Lampard
Scott Parker
Jack Rodwell
Jack Wilshire
Ashley Young

Fwds
Wayne Rooney
Gabby Agbonlahor
Jermain Defoe
Theo Walcott
Connor Wickham

A couple of surprise selections there in Spence and Wickham and its obvious that Holloway is going through a changing of the guard.

Confidence is high in the England camp and Holloway has an extra step in his stride and a sly smile to go with it.

That's a tough group!

Wickham seems to start well on FM12, so natural to pick him.

Shame about the picture, they used to lock people up who looked like that

England made this look easy.

Not much to shout about in the first half as both teams were trying to find their stride. But a 64th minute substitution bringing on Gabby Agbonlahor in place of Ashley Young seemed to do the trick.
His pace and constant running at the Montenegro defenders caused havoc.

Joleon Lescott with another outstanding performance and grabs a goal to complete his Man of the Match performance.

Next up is a tough away game at Ukraine.

A solid display for England against a resilient Ukraine side. An own goal by Rakitskyi was the difference although to be fair it was a shot from Walcott that hit him on the way in. It probably should have been credited to Walcott as it was going in anyway.

Reporter "That was a tough match for your lads"

Holloway "Yes, Ukraine could have sneaked a goal in and got the draw, but all credit to the lads for a great performance.

Reporter "What about the injuries, Ukraine were very physical out there? Will there be any changes for the next two games against Poland and San Marino.

Holloway
"Big Joe (Hart) is still nursing his previous injury and Ashley Cole will definitely be out but we will have to see how the others are faring over the next few days. Jack Wilshire picked up a knock in the game but it looks like he will be available.

England enjoy a one-sided game against a lackluster Polish side.

The speed of Agbonlahor and Walcott caused all kinds of problems for Poland and the scoreline does not reflect how one sided the match was and it could have been a cricket score any other day.

A superb goal by Agbonlahor and a crafty one by Micah Richards sealed this game for England.

Another fine display by Lescott who has really pushed Ashley Cole out of the Left back position.

Next up for England is San Marino.

A thumping display by England and San Marino are well and truly beaten. A hat-trick from James Milner, 2 from Walcott and one each from Barry and Young finished the scoresheet.

Reporter "An expected win today, but did you think you would score that many?"

Holloway "It was a good outing, all the lads feel as though they pulled but Jimmy Milner went home with the hot blonde"

More impressively for England is that they have kept a clean sheet so far with their back up goalkeepers.

With friendlies scheduled against Finland and Portugal later next month the lads can concentrate on their club games.

Stay tuned for the World Cup round up.................................

Lets take a look at the other European qualifying groups.

Group One

Wales still in the hunt for a place but it looks like Croatia have this group sewn up.

Group Two

No clear favorite here and it could still be any of the top four teams that qualify.

Group Three

Germany look like they are too strong for the rest of this group and should advance easily.

Group Four

Turkey are the surprise team of the tournament so far and Holland are in danger of crashing out of the qualifiers as they haven't even played against Turkey yet.

Group Five

Slovenia are looking good but its still too early to rule out Norway or the Swiss.

Group Six

Russia are running away with the group and Portugal seem to be in the same boat as Holland and may have to be content with a second place play off.

Group Seven

Lithuania have really caught some people by surprise and notched up a great 3-0 win over Slovakia to keep them in the chase.

Group Eight

England seem to be coasting through the group and it just remains to be seen who will grab the second place spot.

Group Nine

With France losing 1-0 to Belarus but beating Spain it has left Finland with a chance of sneaking an upset.

Top goalscorer so far is Gekas of Greece who has grabbed 8 of Greece's 10 goals so far. Quite an impressive showing so far including 4 goals against Slovakia and a hat trick against Liechtenstein.

Jay Rodriguez

Reporter "You fancying Jay Rodriguez for a start in either of these games?"

Holloway "We just haven't been able to find that one player who can slip on the #9 shirt and wear it comfortably. I will keep trying until we find him, hopefully Jay can perform the task as well as he does in the EPL"

Reporter "A recall for Adam Johnson too"

Holloway Adam has been tearing it up at Man City and he deserves a chance, Jimmy Milner has picked up a knock and that opened up a spot for him to show what he can do"

Man City withdraw Joe Hart from the friendlies. City and England have been without Hart for a while and he has only just regained his fitness. City clearly feel that he needs to be rested further.

Holloway has called up Jason Steele as a replacement.

A big win over Finland but some concerns for Holloway as Robert "Cinderella" Green makes two mistakes for the Finn's to score.

Reporter
"An awful display by Green, any thoughts?

Holloway "I think the lad cannot play on the big stage, he is as nervous as me on my wedding night, didn't know which way it would go in but it eventually went right down the open hole.

Reporter "Do you think he will be out of your future plans?"

Holloway "Unless he invents superglue gloves, his days in an England shirt are over.

Jay Rodriguez scored on his international debut and had a good game, playing well up front with Gabby Agbonlahor.

Theo Walcott takes the MoM award with an outstanding display.

Scott parker picks up an injury and is out for the match against Portugal. Joey Barton is brought in as his replacement.

Reporter "Joey Barton? You are having a laugh now aren't you?"

Holloway "Who else could handle Ronaldo? "He's six foot something, fit as a flea, good looking - he's got to have
something wrong with him. Hopefully he's hung like a hamster - that would
make us all feel better. Having said that, me missus has got a pet hamster
at home, and his cock's massive."

A wonderful game to watch and a fair result from these two evenly matched teams.

Jay Rodriguez finds the net again, coming on as a sub he caused all kinds of problems for Pepe in the back.

Reporter "Care to comment on Joey Barton's performance today?"

Holloway "Bloody brilliant wasn't he. And that screamer right on time could have gone in, that would be of been a fitting end to the game for him. And he didn't punch anyone either. Great game for him."

Santa takes a beating.

A nice festive game for England. The only question here was, how many could England actually score?

Gabby certainly enjoyed himself out there today. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Holloway "Its a nice boost to the lads to bag a ton of goals, even against the minnow teams. Hopefully they will keep their confidence high against Moldova in the next match.

With injuries galore. Ian Holloway may have to call up some of the old guard to fill in.

Out

Leighton Baines 2-3 Weeks
Jack Wilshire 3 Weeks
Danny Welbeck- Rest of the season

Also injured and unavailable for call up:-

James Milner has just returned to fitness but should be rested for this outing.

Holloway picks his 23 man squad but hold on, Jermain Defoe says no.

Holloway "I guess his England career is over then, I won't bother asking him again. If he doesn't want the chance to play for his country then its his issue and not mine. Personally I think they should be fined for saying no."

Theo Walcott spanks Moldova

England are running away with their group, 7 points clear of second place Poland who drew 1-1 with Ukraine today.

Next match for England is Montenego in a couple of months.

Injury concern is Steven Gerrard who is out for the rest of the season.

Sunderland have been trying to get Ian Holloway to take over as manager but to no avail. Holloway has turned them down and now Sunderland face the indignation of playing Championship Footie next season.

Spurs with a magnificent season take the EPL title.

Some injuries are still of concern to England, with Gerrard still out and now Rooney is looking doubtful for the next game.

What is worrying for England is the lack of EPL goals scored by an English player, with only Peter Crouch finishing in the top 10 goalscorers.

With a few players unavailable and some returning, its a mixture of returning players and a new face.

England still searching for someone for the coveted #9 shirt sees them turning to Billy Sharp for his first cap. He has netted 28 goals this past season with 15 of them for Wigan after his January transfer there. He certainly has the best record for an English player in recent weeks.

To say Billy Sharp had a bad game would be an understatement. Getting a yellow card in the 12th minute set the tone for the rest of his game and he was subbed at half time by Jay Rodriguez. His HT rating was 5.0

Otherwise, it was a good performance by the England team, and they keep marching through the qualifiers. Playing without Rooney, Gerrard and Wilshere they worked well together.

Reporter "You tried Sharp and it didn't work out then"

Holloway "You have to give these lads a crack don't you. He has been tearing up the EPL but he just couldn't get going."

England head to the Confederations Cup in what could be some wonderful games for the England players to keep in match practice over the summer.

England are cruising at the moment.

With convincing wins against Morocco and Uruguay and the next game
scheduled against New Zealand. England look odds on favourite to advance
to the next round.

Holloway will be upset about letting in 2 goals against Morocco but
Chamakh was on form and Joe Hart had to take the credit for a mistake
allowing the first goal.
With that being said, England getting 4 goals just showed the superiority in firepower though.

Uruguay were much tougher physically, but Cole and Jones did a great job of marking Suarez out of the game and limiting their chances.

Poor New Zealand ran into the England freight train.

With England having already qualified for the Semi Final before this game began many expected to see a relaxed display by England but they were treated to a rabid display by Connor Wickham and Wayne Rooney.

Marching on to the Semi's they meet Mexico who surprised Spain 1-0 in their final group game to send Spain packing.

With Rooney out for the game with a strained neck (it must be the weight of all that new hair) it was left to Theo Walcott to continue his amazing England career.

This sets up a juicy final against Brazil who had a hard time beating Uruguay.

Uruguay had Coates sent off in the 36th minute to be joined by Brazil's Damiao in the 79th minute. Then it took Brazil extra time to snatch the winner.

The day before the Confederations Cup Final the English Football world is rocked.

Knowing that Holloway likes a challenge. Is this a possibility for the Good Humour man?

Reporter "Any decisions on this offer?

Holloway "“I am a football manager. I can’t see into the future. Last year I thought I
was going to Cornwall on my holidays but I ended up going to Lyme Regis.”
avatar
Re: Capello Resigns Part Le Deux !!!!

Still no response on Holloway taking the Aussie job as he wanted to focus on the final and have no distractions.

Not the best display by either team, but as any England fan will tell you "a win is a win" and the team will be proud of the accomplishment.

Holloway, as shrewd as ever, played all of his fastest players in order to speed the game up and force Brazil into making mistakes, and it paid off. Although it didn't make for a spectacular game as Brazil could not get into their flow with England chasing down every ball.

In a bittersweet moment, Frank Lampard has decided to call an end to his international career to make way for some youngsters.

With the World Cup Qualifiers less than 2 months away, some are questioning the timing of this and Jack Wilshere will be feeling the pressure to step into the void left by Frank.

Holloway had already dispensed with some of the "old guard" and has already overlooked John Terry and Rio Ferdinand for all of his squads.

With only the one friendly scheduled before resuming the WC Qualifiers, it doesn't give Holloway much of a chance to experiment much.

However, he has seemed to make his final decisions up front by picking Connor Wickham again. He had a great showing against Hungary today.

Joining Gabby Agbonlahor or Theo Walcott up front he has added a new dimension to the team with his size and strength.

Just a reminder of how the Qualifiers look at the moment.

England are heading to Brazil !!!!

With an impressive display over Ukraine, England have sealed their fate with three games to spare.

With Steven Gerrard playing second fiddle to the likes of Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere and Ashley Young, also Ashley Cole finding himself back to Joleon Lescott, many are wondering if they will even be called up to travel to Brazil.
Both players had suffered long injuries last season and with other quality players available will Holloway call time on these two old warhorses?

A fine display again by England dispatching Poland easily. With injuries to Micah Richards and Glen Johnson a last minute replacement was called up, Martin Kelly and he was the star of the show getting the MoM award with a fine display.

Then a walk in the park against San Marino.

With one game left in the group stages Ukraine are the only ones left in this group that have a chance of a spot in the finals but they must win against Poland to have any chance at all.

Martin Kelly's a good prospect, good to see he's doing well on here too.

Do you exclusively use WG's tactics or do you mix it, depending on the opposition?

@the deeb wrote:

I use WG's tactics with maybe a tweak here exclusively with only changes inside the team or player instructions.

Sometimes I will play Gareth Barry or Tom Huddlestone as an anchor man in his DM position or with a fast opposition like Mexico I change the keeper to a sweeper keeper so they can come out and gather the ball.

Up front, I always play Gabby or Theo as a poacher and now Connor Wickham as target man. Its like the old Toshack - Keegan days. Lobs the ball to Toshack who nods it down for Keegan to score, simple innit !!!

I do change Rooney around during the game depending in the scoreline, if I need a goal or more movement I change him to a Advanced Playmaker or Inside Forward to add more to the attack.

If I have Leighton Baines playing and I am ahead I change him to a wingback, as long as I have an anchor man on the left side of the pitch.

I keep saying I am going to write an expanded guide to WG's tactics so I better get on with that.

The group winners are as follows:-

Croatia
Italy
Austria
Turkey
Switzerland
Russia
Greece
England
France

Then the best second place teams enter a play off.

Holloway has two friendlies left before the World Cup Schedule is announced on December 6th 2013.

Reporter "Will you be planning your final squad this far ahead?

Holloway "I will need to see who we are drawn against, it will make all the difference depending on our group opponents.

Reporter
"There is some talk going around that Steven Gerrard will not be going to Brazil"

Holloway "I haven't talked with him yet, he is a vital part of the squad and can be a match winner for us. I hope he is available to go.

Reporter "You have been introducing some youth into the squad, will you be sticking with that?

Holloway "We are still 7 months away from the finals, a lot can happen in that time, there will always be injuries and I will have to see who is available at the end of the season.

Reporter "There are some up and coming youngsters in the England youth set up, will you be looking at them?"

Holloway "Of course, I would be an idiot not to have a butchers at them and maybe try some of them in the friendlies against Japan and Slovakia at the end of the month."

16 yr old phenom Dominic Walker is highly tipped to be putting on an England shirt.

Also, many in the media are predicting that Dave Smith is close to getting a nod to pull on a Three Lions shirt.
